If you missed Betty White on Saturday Night Live last weekend, you missed classic TV. Betty absolutely killed. Seriously. I hope when I’m 88 1/2 I’m half as funny, lively and sharp.
Meanwhile, the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico continues to spew unabated. And while BP is spending money to clean it up, I’m for fining them as well. Clean up is what is supposed to happen. There’s no punishment. There’s no incentive to prevent this from happening again. The clean-up is their responsibility. If I cause an accident with my car and cause damage, then I have to pay for the damage. But if I did it negligently – like driving drunk, there is also a punitive price to pay.
From the testimony, it looks like there was some negligence, given that they knew there was a problem with the well but did not stop activity to investigate. If there was indeed a breach in safety or preventive measures, if there was negligence, they need to be fined as well.
