Yup, it’s an odd topic.
You know it’s serious when they ask you ‘Do you have an advanced directive?’. This is a very clinical way of asking you ‘If you’re dying and can’t speak for yourself, have you made alternate plans?’. 
It’s a little short of a month since I had my heart attack, and I’m still getting my head around the changes that it requires in my life. This morning, I decided to take a portrait of my new “friends” – the pile of medications I now have to take to give me the best shot at not returning to the hospital again.


I decided a long time ago that no matter how old my daughter gets, Santa will be coming around every Christmas. I don’t care if she figures out who Santa really is. For me, that’s a little tradition that’s important. 
I love my daughter very much. Like most parents, I want to give my daughter everything I possibly can. The hitch is that *possibly can* is a whole lot less than these other folks. Which is how I found myself nearly weeping in a Walmart tonight. 
Fair warning: I’m venting.
For most of us, Memorial Day is a day to relax, perhaps lounge at the pool or beach, enjoy a barbecue, or just have a lazy day. We have the day off work. But for thousands of active military, Memorial Day is another day at work.
